Karlsruhe, October 23, 2026 – Chrono24 is giving buyers a new way to protect a watch bought on the platform after purchase, with Watch Insurance. The cover can be added to the Watch Collection for watches purchased on Chrono24 and includes accidental damage, with optional theft cover, up to €25,000 or £25,000, including VAT, with no deductible. At launch, the offer is available in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain, with more markets to follow.
Why extra cover can make sense
Watches are portable assets. They get worn, taken on trips, passed down and resold, and the value on someone's wrist tends to grow over the years. "Anyone who wears a watch regularly knows the everyday risks: it can be dropped or damaged, and travel brings the added risk of theft. With Watch Insurance, buyers can cover these risks for a watch bought on Chrono24," says Tom Beitschall, General Manager EMEA at Chrono24.
Standard safeguards such as manufacturer warranties and home contents insurance only cover watches partially, often with deductibles and limits on damage. That's why Chrono24 Watch Insurance, run together with XCover.com, is built as a separate policy tied to one specific watch. The insured watch is named on the certificate and cover is based on its current market value up to the policy limit, so there's no need to adjust it every time the value shifts. Exact terms depend on the chosen package and the policy documents.
What's covered
The basic package covers accidental damage, for example from a drop, breakage, liquid, fire, lightning, or improper handling. A second package adds theft cover. Loss and misplacement of the watch are not covered.
What sets Watch Insurance apart: claims are settled based on the watch's current market value. To establish that value, Chrono24 looks at active listings for comparable watches, matching brand, model, condition and rarity. Where no market value can be established on that basis, the original purchase price applies instead.
Eligibility and making a claim
Once a watch bought on Chrono24 appears in the Watch Collection, Watch Insurance can be added within 14 days of it showing up there.
To qualify, the watch must have been bought on Chrono24 and the buyer must live in one of the six launch markets. If a claim arises, the watch can be repaired at an authorized watch service of the owner's choice. The policy runs for one year and does not renew automatically, which keeps things flexible. The premium is paid as a single, one-off payment. The policy is not transferable and ends when the watch is sold.
"Watch Insurance is another step toward making it simpler and safer to buy and own a watch purchased on Chrono24. It gives customers an extra option to protect their watch against everyday risks even after the purchase," says Tom Beitschall, General Manager EMEA at Chrono24.
